Travel stories continue. What to do all weekend in Krakow?

I never thought I would write more on the travel blog, but when my articles about Sri Lanka were so successful and had great feedback, I decided to do it. How we had it in Sri Lanka, you can read here. But now we’re going to Poland, to Krakow, where we spent the whole weekend.

Friday: Good food, affordable prices
We found the perfect flights from Friday to Monday. The arrival was on Friday at 12:00 and we flew out on Monday at 15:10, so we spent a total of 3 nights in Krakow. After arriving, we immediately went to eat. We wanted something Polish, so we found Morskie Oko, where we went right from the airport – the food was good, the prices were affordable! Then we went to our accommodation through Airbnb, which cost us around 4,000 CZK. Given that we were staying in the Old Town and I booked the accommodation on Friday at 6 am, it’s quite a decent price. We took bus No. 300 with one transfer to the tram from the airport to the city center for a beautiful 6 PLN per person and 60 minutes in public transport.

After checking in and a short break, we went back to the city center, walked through the center towards the Wawel Castle and looked around the area. Because after lunch you want to have a dessert, we went to the Sklep Firmowy i Kawiarnia Wawel restaurant right on the ‘square’. The prices were of course higher, but I simply wanted a strudel with ice cream. And the coffee? It had a decent taste! Then we took it again through the center towards the apartment. After all, we didn’t sleep much, so we were groggy.

Saturday: Snow, a mine in Polish, beer nothing special, but great drinks
On Saturday it was snowing on us – yes, in March it was snowing, so we went to the Wieliczka salt mine. Since I had never been to such a mine before, it was interesting for me. 130 meters underground is not an everyday thing. But watch out, compared to the mine in Romania, it is not as good according to Terka and there are also hordes of children and the tour times are also a bit tricky. We came by train, after one bad boarding at 13:15. The journey from the station in the city center took about 30 minutes by train and cost 13 PLN per person. The tours were either at 14:00 in English or at 14:05 in Polish. Well, we bought Polish… Why? Probably because we were standing in the wrong line.

Then, after we returned to the station, we went to live for a while and then headed to dinner in the city center. On Saturday without a reservation, it was quite a pain, but in the end we found a nice eatery that was quite affordable. For 2 main dishes and 2 beers, which are not very good (because they’re just Polish beer), it cost us about 400 CZK. Then we wanted a drink and found the great Sour with beautiful spaces and great drinks. Although 4 drinks cost you 600 CZK, what the hell feels like home…

Sunday: Best pierogi ever, but the goulash no
On Sunday we were looking forward to it, because it wasn’t supposed to snow and they were forecasting better weather. We headed through the center to the castle and continued all the way to Kazimierz, the old Jewish quarter. We walked through the synagogues, cemeteries, looked into the museum for a reasonable 20 PLN/person and had great pierogi at Mirror Bistro. I have to say that these were probably the best pierogi we’ve had with Terka. And the price? For 16 pierogi of 4 types we paid 27 PLN. Then we moved back to the Old Town, where we visited Dierovy Kociol (aka the Leaky Cauldron, you Potterheads!), where we had a butter lager, which you just have to try. But you don’t have to have it.

Then we went for dinner, where we both had the long-awaited goulash in bread. The fact that you see it on every corner, it’s quite hard to find. That’s why the price tag is 250 CZK, which is quite a lot. But if the meat in the goulash had fallen apart, we wouldn’t have a problem. But it didn’t fall apart, however, the plus points were for the great taste, which I would overall rate at a maximum of 200 CZK.

Monday: Breakfast with Harry Potter and departure
On Monday, we had a great breakfast at Cytat Cafe, which is also a library. The space was absolutely divine! And the fact that you’ll find Harry Potter posters in the bathroom is a nice surprise! Then it was just a last walk through the center and a transfer to the airport.
